A drone strike in Yemen in September 2011, authorized by President Obama, removed U.S. citizen Anwar al Awlaki from the battlefield. Following the drone strike, it was reported that U.S. citizens were fighting for ISIL, and ISIL had threatened to carry out attacks inside the United States. First, from a Christian perspective, should our society live in fear of the threat of terrorism? Second, is the targeted killing of suspected terrorists extra-judicial execution or a legitimate means of anticipatory self-defense?
