Based on the interviewee’s responses, you will consider where the interviewee would fall under the “dimensions of bilingualism” in Chapter 1 of Baker (2011).

This assignment will have two sections: the interview and the analysis. please read instructions carefully! i have atttached the interview questions you will need to ask someone. Part 1- Interview: You will interview someone you know who is bilingual or who is a second language learner (remember, being “bilingual” does not mean being completely fluent and a second language learner can be anyone who is learning another language). You will need to come up with interview questions to determine how the person you are interviewing (the interviewee) views her or his language abilities in each language. Make sure you ask the interviewee about her or his abilities in each of the four domains of language: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. As a class, we will brainstorm some questions we might ask in the interview. You will write down the questions you want to ask, find a person who would like to participate in the interview, and then you will write a transcript of the interview (what was exactly said). The interview transcript should be at least 500 words.

Part II- Analysis: i. Based on the interviewee’s responses, you will consider where the interviewee would fall under the “dimensions of bilingualism” in Chapter 1 of Baker (2011). For example, you will determine if the person you interviewed is an incipient bilingual or balanced bilingual and whether the person’s bilingualism features ascendant bilingualism or recessive bilingualism. Then, you will determine if the context they learned their second language was additive or subtractive (see Baker (2011) Chapter 4). Make sure to explain why you classified your interviewee this way. Next, you will make a continuum1 like the one mentioned on p. 9 of the Baker (2011) textbook that fits the person you interviewed. You should thoroughly explain how you determined the interviewee’s place on the continuum. iii.. Finally, you will make a chart similar to page 5 in the Baker (2011) textbook in which you specify the interviewee’s language targets and language contexts.
