Learning from this video there is nothing we can find that looks like maize is interesting. I know corn is very popular and I enjoy eating it but I never realized corn is in many of the foods we consume. We have corn bread and the meats we eat because the animals are on a corn-based diet. I found it interesting how George Beadle studied teosinte and with just studying the chromosome of this grass and maize he found them to be identical. However, I also enjoyed listening to Dr. John Doebley explain the differences between the teosinte and corn.

Dr. Doebley explained and demonstrated the differences between the two by starting with the structure on both side by side. Him demonstrating how corn does not have branches while teosinte is full of branches and how corn has plenty of kernels while teosinte only has a handful of kernels really did show why people did not believe Beadle. I was amazed to learn how science works in everything and Beadle proved how teosinte is the real ancestor of maize after growing 50,000 F2 plants. Learning about regulatory genes intrigued me because I had no idea moving a gene in these plants changes more than one gene. I enjoyed learning teosinte came from the Balsas River in Mexico about 9,000 years ago and now we have maize.
