Ewing’s poem “Three Re-Tellings”

Growing up as an African American, or any other race, you may be hated and treated differently. Some children are raised to have negative attitudes toward people of color, and they grow up to spread those attitudes throughout the world. Through the speaker’s use of storytelling, metaphors, and hyperboles, Ewing’s poem “Three Re-Tellings” conveys the theme of growing up in places where racism was prevalent and how she learned to deal with it.
