Course objectives assessed CO3. Discuss the cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with regard to the provision of culturally safe healthcare delivery. CO4. Describe the importance of cross-cultural communication in relation to healthcare practice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. CO5. Discuss contemporary healthcare strategies as they relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities and explore barriers and enablers with regard to healthcare delivery. CO6. Describe approaches for promoting the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of individuals, families and community groups in association with contemporary health policy and person centred care. Nursing students will address Target One (1) Target 1: Everyone enjoys long and healthy lives (nursing students only) Nursing students need to develop a poster relating to one of the following health promotion initiatives with regards to Aboriginal peoples. a. ear health in children b. smoking c. rheumatic heart disease or d. social and emotional wellbeing during early life Your poster needs to include; -clear identification of the area of health promotion that you will focus on and justification as to why it is important. This needs to include epidemiological data and a concise critical review of the relevant literature; – a strengths-based perspective a​‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍​nd critical analysis of the historical, political, cultural and social factors that impact your area of focus; the goals of the health promotion initiative; -factors that nurses/midwives must consider when engaging with Aboriginal health promotion to deliver holistic, responsive, culturally safe health promotion with Aboriginal peoples. If this was a true Aboriginal healthcare promotion initiative, there would be consultation with representatives from the Aboriginal community from the outset. You are not able to do this but you need to offer an explanation as to why this is important and discuss it in relation to an Aboriginal definition of health and the Ottawa Charter of Health Promotion; -suggestions regarding how the effectiveness of the proposed health promotion initiative could be evaluated and -appropriate diagrams, pictures, graphs and images. Each student must work alone to produce the individual poster. The information in the poster must be supported with reference to the course readings and academic literature. Each poster should contain the equivalent of 1000 words. The individual poster must include a minimum of ten (10) references that are formatted as per the template and UniSA Harvard Referencing Guide.
