Word Count The word limit for the essay is 4,500 words. The word count does NOT include the title, declaration and acknowledgement pages, bibliography, figure captions and appendices, but DOES include all the contents of all of the sections of your essay including quotations. Footnotes are best avoided and will be included in the word count. Although you are expected to keep within the word range specified above, there is a 10% ‘tolerance’ on word counts, so we will give leeway of plus or minus 10% (e.g. 450 words). However, if your essay is significantly over or under the word limit this will be reflected in your mark. Include the word count on your front page.
