French cuisine and cooking methods have influenced the cuisines of many other regions and countries. When you take a close look at the characteristics of a specific cuisine, you can sometimes identify this influence in the obvious use of methods and techniques, other times in subtle details, such as the use of spices, flavors, or preparation.

  1. For this assignment, you must choose the cuisine of a region or country that you would like to research and learn more about. You should pick one from the list of suggestions: Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, or Belgium.
  2. Search for information about the cuisine of the region or country of your choice. Then, write a research paper addressing the elements described below:
  3. The paper should include at least three sections that address the following:
    • How has French cuisine influenced the cuisine of the region/country you selected? Name three (3) unique culinary facts that you did not know previously. 
    • Discuss two (2) ingredients or cooking methods shared by your region’s cuisine and French cuisine, as well as three (3) unique ingredients that contribute to the region’s food identity.
    • Discuss the career and restaurant(s) of a famous chef (past or present) from the region.
  4. The paper should have 1-inch margins. It should be at least 350 words and double-spaced and typed in 12-point Times New Roman. At least 2 sources must be cited, and at least one of these sources must be found through the Virtual Library.
