How does one symbol provide meaning to the story? In analyzing this symbol in your argument, consider what happens, how the characters act as well as interact, and the setting.
What motivates a character to take action? Focus on a primary action a character takes (it can be monumental or it can be subtle, but in either case it’s poignant or telling); consider what drives the character emotionally and/or morally or both and how he/she is presented to the reader, both directly and indirectly.
How does the plot effectively convey the theme of the story? First of all, determine what you claim is the theme, and then address the ways in which the plot elements we’ve studied – remember Freytag’s Pyramid – convey this theme. (Be very careful not to slip into plot summary; this is analysis, making an argument about the plot.)
