Impact of Federal Legislation
Since the HITECH Act was passed as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment act of 2009, EMR adoption has skyrocketed. The Affordable Care Act of 2010 implemented further government incentives (and penalties) to promote even more “meaningful use” of health information technology. In 2015, the Medicare Authorization and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) presented a framework by which Medicare will gradually shift from a “pay per service” program to more of a quality-based payment program.

- Explain how national concerns about cost and quality of care affect those responsible for managing healthcare information systems.
