I still remember the first day of my job at Jumpstart when my perspective was changed by a young girl who was missing both legs. She was different from me in every was possible. At Jumpstart, we teach young children to read and write and she was my pupil. We work very differently. I prefer mapping out the situation and putting myself on a timeline, whereas she prefers to jump right into the task. After working on a few projects together, it became apparent that we needed to find a better balance between our two working styles. Thus, we had a talk where we agreed to split our tasks up and come together at the end of each day. We also agreed to keep the lines of communication open throughout the day. So far, this approach has resulted in a more streamlined process. As different as we are from each other, we both agree that as long as we get to the end goal together, it doesn’t always matter how we got there.”

At the end of the day, her wide grin made me feel that being with her even as she left to go home helped make the school and the world a more positive place. At that moment I had reached an epiphany. Im at a crossroads right now, where I could go live my life the way I think I probably shouldbe successful and safe, and probably very happy. Or I could risk all of that feeling sorry and pathetic about myself everyday. People are born, they grow old, and then they die. Thats the world we live intheres no magic, no mysticism, no immortality. There is nothing that defies rational thought. Its not possibleIm not a believer, I cant be. But how can I deny whats right in front of me? She was the perfect example that I can be who you choose to be. Nothing can stop me except for myself. As a recovering perfectionist, anxiety warrior, and depression fighter, my purpose in life is to empower myself to empower others. I define my purpose in life as a continual journey of becoming the best possible version of myself. By doing this, I can help other people become the best possible version of themselves
