According to Plato, the ancient Greek philosopher Socrates believed that a leader should be morally and intellectually superior to the people he or she leads.  For some, this goes against the very democratic idea that a leader needs to be “of the people” instead of “above the people.”

With this idea in mind, I’d like you to share with the group your qualifications for a truly good leader.  What attributes should an effective leader have?  If a community is to be truly happy and healthy, how should its leader behave?

I‘d also like you to view the following video.  It’s the first 10 minutes of Oedipus the King, and I’d like you to include in your journal whether you believe Oedipus is displaying signs of a good or a bad leader.  Your entry may be written as one long paragraph of at least 250 words, but be sure to respond to at least one peer’s response as well.
