Perpetua’s Journey Essay: During this course, we will read Perpetua’s Journey: A Graphic History (Oxford University Press, 2018). You will be required to write a 1,200 word (~4 page) reaction paper where you answer this question: What does Perpetua’s life tell us about the role of religion in ancient Rome, and how can her story help us to appreciate the role religion plays in society today? The essay should provide a brief summary of the book’s contents (i.e. no more than 1-2 short paragraphs), but the majority of it should be dedicated to critical self-reflection upon the text. You should be prepared to discuss your essay in class on the due date listed on the course schedule. Papers must have a thesis, be clearly focused, wellorganized, and persuasively argued in good English grammar and style.
