Instructions:

Final Exam Writing Assignment or Final Essay:  The Final Exam is a writing assignment ~ a review essay on Engaged Observer in conversation with the ideas raised in assigned readings from Visions of Culture.  This is not a book report. Your essay should be approximately 6-8 pages (1500-2000 words, double-spaced, 12 pt font, 1 inch margins, please number all pages).  Look at Current Anthropology, American Ethnologist and American Anthropologist journal book review essays as models.

    This means that you want to write a review of Engaged Observer - what are the main arguments? What is the evidence that is presented? What does it contribute to the discipline of anthropology? Give examples and use a few choice quotes (with citations) to make your point.
     
    Additionally, you want to write this in conversation with ideas raised in the readings in Visions of Culture. The assignment is not to write a report about all the ideas in Visions of Culture, rather your task is to bring Engaged Observer into conversation with some of the ideas raised in Visions of Culture. You can choose to point to some foundational ideas from Visions of Culture that Engaged Observer challenges or builds upon.
