here is an example. please follow this peer’s outline!!!

Introduction:

  • My topic: Some rape cases are not handled properly, and a large majority of the time the rapist is not prosecuted in the correct manner.
  • question: Why aren’t all rape cases taken seriously throughout America’s law system?

Opposing view:

  • Some individuals lie about being sexually assaulted/raped.

Statement of understanding:

  • I can understand why it would be hard to believe all rape cases, because not everyone speaks the truth.

My position and context:

  • I was raped my freshman year of college, and although I knew it was rape I had several people tell me that it wasn’t and so I never said anything about it.
  • Where there is negative power or influence, it can make it a lot harder to speak on what happened to you.

Statement of benefits:

  • If there were to be an improvement in the way the law system works with sexual assault cases, then a lot more rapists or sexual assaulters would be in jail. You would not be able to walk into the same store that your sexual offender walks in.
