Learning Goal: I’m working on a criminal justice discussion question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.
Should the U.S. criminal justice system be allowed to use jailhouse snitches/informants? Why or why not?
Some things you may want to consider in your discussion:
a. What would happen to the system if we disallowed jailhouse snitch testimony?
b. Should they be eligible to be used for all types of crimes, or only certain ones?
c. Should we allow defense attorneys to “pay” for testimony from jail inmates too?
c. Will warning the jurors about the unreliability of informant testimony be sufficient?
d. Are there ways to make jailhouse snitch testimony more reliable?
