INSTRUCTIONS: This assignment requires you to critically review children’s online play and online leisure activities and the tensions that exist between children’s and adults’ perspectives on the value of this aspect of children’s digital lifestyle. Read the document “Our rights in the digital world”. The document can be accessed in uploads where I uploaded it. This document reports on a study undertaken for Convention on the Rights of the Child regarding children’s rights in the digital world. For this report, 709 children and young people aged between 9 – 22 years old were consulted in 27 countries on six continents who offered insights into how digital technology impacts their rights, and what action they want to see taken to protect them. This report documents the findings of that study. This assignment focuses on Section 4 of this report “Leisure and Play”. In Section 4 of the report, children’s comments highlighted the important role of technology for their right to leisure and play yet the conflict that they have with adults about this. Children want to play online, yet often felt their leisure choices are misunderstood by adults. Many children experienced tension with adults who were often concerned that time online took children away from other activities – such as playing outside or completing homework or household duties. Children suggested this was an overly simplified argument, and that play, and leisure online was valuable and important to them. To complete this assignment you must use a range of relevant references to examine the following questions. This critical report will focus on the following questions that need to be answered: 1.
