Part 1(a): This discussion board will be split into four options, allowing enough content for each student to share a unique opinion, observation, or interpretation.

Watch one of the two informational interviews linked below to analyze its communication. Make sure to reference concepts from chapter 5 in your textbook. Video 1 – interview conducted by Katie Couric (on the “Katie” talk show) with Carmen Carrera and Lavern Cox Video 2 – interview conducted by radio host for NPR with band Sigur Ros (band members are collectively the E). Part 1(b):Analyze one party’s communication (either E or R) using concepts from chapter 5. Remember that your own post must be an original idea, so if someone has already made the argument you had planned, you should look for something new to add to the conversation.

Additionally, support your arguments with SPECIFIC examples from the interview. Do not simply summarize the interview or write just your opinion. Support your analysis with SPECIFIC examples from the interview and concepts from your textbook readings to earn a higher grade. Below are questions to guide your analysis of the R (Wendy Williams or NPR host).

Do not answer all of them! Leave something for your classmates to talk about. What was her/his specific purpose? How did this affect the interview? What types of questions did (s)he ask? How did that affect the interview? How was her/his opening? How was her/his closing? How well did (s)he probe? What question pitfalls did you hear? What (if anything) could she/they have done to improve the interview? Below are questions to guide your analysis of the E (Lavern Cox or Sigur Ros – the band).
