Instructions
• You may use the computer-based instruction (CBIs), readings and references from both C300A (Phase 2) and C300B (Phase 3), and the Indo-Asia-Pacific Context Reference Book, Situation D) to help you answer the exam.
• Your answers will be typed and double-spaced. Use Arial 12-pitch font and one-inch margins. Type your answers directly into the spaces provided. Your typed responses will be double-spaced sentences (not bullets).
• If you state something from doctrine, website, the readings or the lessons as part of your answer, you MUST give a citation. You may use parenthetical citations, and endnotes on this exam.
• Each question has it’s own reference (s). Please read the entire question. References are provided (Computer Based Instructions, readings, and internet source).
• Question number 1 has 5 tasks (questions) that must be answered.
QUESTIONS:
1. (500 word limit. 100 words per task) Reference the Indo-Asia-Pacific Situation D, several tasks that must be accomplished to support operations are listed below. For each of the listed tasks, recommend and justify one prospective unit to accomplish each of the likely tasks. When formulating your justification address the tradeoff between a unit’s capabilities and limitations with emphasis on why this unit can best perform the task in question.
TASKS
A. Form a Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) headquarters within a Joint Operations Area to be prepared for non-permissive entry operations (*chosen unit will be the III Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF)- Provide justification i.e. Why did you choose this unit? Address the tradeoff between unit’s capabilities and limitations with emphasis on why this unit can best perform the task in question. B. Be prepared to clear northern Sumatra ( North Sumatra, West Sumatra and Riau provinces) of enemy forces, stabilize and handover to Indonesian security and military forces loyal to the Indonesian National Government (*chosen unit will be 25th Infantry Div. Provide justification i.e. Why did you choose this unit? Address the tradeoff between unit’s capabilities and limitations with emphasis on why this unit can best perform the task in question. (no more than 100 words)- refer to the attached 25th ID information, 25th Infantry Division PDF, and Computer Based Instruction- What is a Division
C. Secure the Strait of Malacca (prevent interference with global trade) (*chosen unit will be CTF-76 Amphibious Force (Expeditionary Strike Group: consisting of one LHD with embarked Marines and equipment, one LPD with embarked marines and equipment, LSD with embarked marines and equipment, and one destroyer). Provide justification i.e. Why did you choose this unit? Address the tradeoff between unit’s capabilities and limitations with emphasis on why this unit can best perform the task in question. D. Establish port opening and distribution for the Joint Operations Area (*chosen unit will be 8th Theater Sustainment Command (TSC). Provide justification i.e. Why did you choose this unit? Address the tradeoff between unit’s capabilities and limitations with emphasis on why this unit can best perform the task in question. E. Support Indoniesian Military Forces to suppress potential unrest/subversive activity in Aceh. (*chosen unit will be 1st BN, 1st Special Forces Group. Provide justification i.e. Why did you choose this unit? Address the tradeoff between unit’s capabilities and limitations with emphasis on why this unit can best perform the task in question. (no more than 100 words)- refer to the attached Computer Based Instructions Special Operations Forces capabilities and limitations and 1st Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne)
2. (200 word limit) Reference the Indo-Asia-Pacific Situation D and the tasks listed in the preceding question, describe how the Air Force (AF) core missions of command and control (C2) and rapid global mobility (RGM) enhance or enable Joint Forces to conduct these tasks. 3.
